SCREEN Americas announces a new partnership with leading provider of envelope conversion and mail insertion solutions, Winkler + DÃ¼nnebier, also known as W + D. The alliance provides a complete solution where direct mail and commercial printers can produce personalized content using roll-fed digital inkjet, create personalized envelopes based on that content, and seamlessly transition into which the designated content is inserted into the corresponding envelope. The complete solution includes a SCREEN Truepress Jet520 Series press, a SCREEN Equios workflow, and the W + D BB1000 Mailing Finisher and Inserter System. The sophisticated system, which also allows custom printing on both sides of an envelope, is expected to increase the speed of variable data printing.

Numerous market research shows that recipients prefer personalized content. Further research shows that colorful and personalized envelopes achieve the highest open and read rates and increase anticipation of receiving mail. With the newly formed alliance, variable data marketing can now exist on many levels.
Plus, direct mail can be expected to save on paper costs. âMost converting machines use blank envelopes which require paper rolls larger than 21Â½ inches,â said Aron Allenson, product manager for SCREEN Americas. âThe BB1000, with its tighter insertion tolerances, allows us to go from a number 10 style envelope measuring 4â x 9Â½ inches to a narrower envelope measuring 9â inches wide while safely inserting content, including including 8Â½ inch wide items plus a number nine style return envelope that is 8â inches wide. This results in faster printing and up to five percent paper savings. The BB1000 can also enhance mail items with post office trailing edge cutting and embossing which further qualifies senders for additional mailing discounts of up to four percent.
Finally, direct mail can meet the United States Postal Service’s minimum quantity discounts by combining shipments from more than one company in one order by zip code. Typically, shippers use plain white paper double window envelopes to facilitate ordering by zip code for different shipments. These envelopes are more expensive and do not allow for personalization or personalization. The W + D and SCREEN solution provides custom printed envelopes for multiple mailings in postal code order.
